Jason Benson Meshack Jeremiah Sylas

Jason is partially orphaned. When Jason's father died, his mother was inherited by another man. After being physically abused by his stepfather, Jason was taken under the care of Pastor Yusuf and his wife Susan. Jason did well on his national exams and aspires to be a teacher. He now attends Sigor Boys High School with the support of Pastor Yusuf and The Save Africa Project.

Benson's parents are both still alive, yet they are described by Pastor Yusuf as "the poorest of the poor." His grades are excellent and The SAP is proud to support his studies at Chemolingot Secondary School.

Meshack was partially orphaned when he was only six years old. His dad, who was also supporting three other women and their children, became mentally ill with cerebral malaria and drowned. His mother was inherited by another man and his other brothers and sisters are being used for labor. Being the first born in his family, Meshack is the first to go to school with excellent grades. The Save Africa Project is amazed by him and is proud to support him in this endeavor as he attends Emining Boys High School.

Jeremiah is eighteen years old and thankfully has both parents. However, his mother is sick with an addiction to alcohol and they are also extremely affected by the drought in northwest Kenya. Despite his difficult home life, he has shown amazing results on his national exams and is an excellent student at Chemolingot High School. He wants to later continue on to college and become a district commissioner/administrator.

Sylas is an incredibly intelligent young man with a very humble spirit. He is one of the thousands of people who were internally displaced as a result of the violence following Kenya's 2007 election. It is uncertain whether his father is still alive. Sylas desires to become a lawyer and we have no doubt that he will accomplish this. He will soon be graduating from Chemolingot Secondary School.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth, 15 years old, is sixth born in a family of 4 boys and 6 girls. She did her Kenya certificate of Primary Education Examination (KCPE) in 2009. However, she was unable to proceed to Form One because of lack of school fees.

Life hasn't been kind to her... Elizabeth grew up with a father who sadly never supported his family. He would often sell household items and take family money to support his alcohol abuse. Elizabeth's mother moved out of her home due to the challenges of supporting her children as well as her husband who would often refuse to go search for employment, but held on to hope for her children through faith in God. They now rent the house that they currently live in. Elizabeth's mother tries to earn some money from working on people's farms or selling produce from a small piece of land behind her house. She had a great burden taking Elizabeth through school, such that at times, they had to go without food so that she could save some money so that Elizabeth and her other sister could go to school. Out of the 10 children, Elizabeth and her other sister are the only ones who have done the KCPE.

Despite it all... Elizabeth wants to be a nurse. She says that she has always had this dream ever since she was a small girl. Helping people and treating the sick has always been her passion. She also wants to be a teacher so that she can instill knowledge because she believes that wisdom is supreme and that knowledge empowers us all.

We are incredibly proud of Elizabeth's passion for others and selfless heart. Join us as we watch how she transforms the lives around her and becomes a role model and leader for others in Kenya.

James is 15 years old. He came to Kibera with his parents and ten other siblings when he was in fourth grade. Shortly after, his father passed away and his mother went with some siblings to their rural home in northwest Kenya. James was left to live with his older sisters and their children. His older sister Beatrice makes BADALA bracelets.

James

Life has been hard for the family. James and his seven family members all share an open room in the slums of Kibera. The family has so far also lost two other children, both siblings to James. Despite it all, James is very talented in school where he scores well above average on every subject.

He loves playing soccer, where he plays position number 5. He also loves helping around the house to take care of his younger relatives. He has seen many chances pass him by because of the social setting of his home; this has made him work hard in school to achieve his goal of becoming a Lawyer. This he believes will give him a better footing at fighting for the oppressed.

James' scholarship has been provided by Kolaya Instruments. You can visit them here and thank them for their support: http://www.kolayaco.com

The Save Africa Project is also seeking and graciously accepting donations to provide further scholarships.
